A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced 3rd Line support engineer to join a forward-thinking organisation based in Swindon, Wiltshire.


Key skills required for a 3rd Line support engineer;

  • Experience working as a 3rd Line support engineer

  • 3+ years IT support experience

  • Project Work/Management

  • Work station hardware

  • Work station operating systems; Microsoft Windows, 7,8,10

  • Application issues; Microsoft Desktop, Server and Office 365

  • Network issues; connectivity, Switches, Cabling and diagnostics

  • Server administration, DHCP, DNS, Group Policies and Office 365 integration

  • Internet issues; connectivity, routers and firewalls

  • Set up new user accounts and profiles

  • Site Audits

Desirable skills for a 3rd line support engineer but this is not essential;

  • Managed Services industry experience (MSP)

  • Any related certifications would be a huge advantage but is not essential (MCP, ITIL, CCNA, MCSE etc.)

  • Virtualisation - VMware, Hyper-V

  • Office365, Veeam, Citrix, Group Policy

Key responsibilities for a 3rd Line support engineer;

  • Interact with customers, staff and external third parties, quickly gaining the respect of others, both colleagues and customers at all levels

  • Take ownership of user problems and be proactive when dealing with issues, keeping clients updated and providing feedback on progress of logged issues

  • Provide on-site support to customers as and when required

  • Escalate more complex calls to an appropriate manager/Director for resolution

  • Maintain a log of any software or hardware problems detected

  • Inventory, hardware and software asset management

  • Perform testing and to support all aspects of testing and acceptance for given projects

  • Assist with updates and renewals for software maintenance

  • Support clients in the use of computer equipment by providing training when necessary

  • Ensure the smooth running and maximum availability of all IT systems, including email provision, print services and telephones (mobile and fixed)

  • Develop and implement technical processes as required

  • Find innovative ways of improving IT services and identify technical advances to support customer’s benefits and opportunities for new business

  • Ensure the security of systems and data from internal and external attack

  • Manage crisis situations, which may involve complex technical hardware or software problems
